Child Development Program
Head Start/Partnership for Community Action Collaboration
Scottdale’s partnership with Partnership for Community Action/Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing children’s social and cognitive development. The program provides enrolled children and families targeted educational, health, nutritional, social and other services.
SPARK of Scottdale/Parents As Teachers
Parents As Teachers, or PAT, is an international early childhood parent education and family support program serving Scottdale families with children ages zero (prenatal) to five years old. The program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education, and uses home visits to provide research-based child development training and parenting support. It differs from other home visitation programs in that it provides more comprehensive support to parents by connecting them with community resources and facilitating the development of meaningful and authentic relationships with other parents. PAT helps to seed empowerment and self-sufficiency.
Infant
Care (6 weeks - 12 months)
Scottdale recognizes
that learning for infants is everything the child experiences-arrival,
dressing and undressing, diapering, hand washing and feeding. Through
the High Scope Infant curriculum we provide stimulating activities designed
for individual children to maximize their language, cognitive, physical,
social and emotional development. Our teachers understand that infants
rely on all their senses for learning. Teachers will talk, snuggle, giggle,
tickle a tummy, or sing a song as they change a diaper or feed a bottle
to help infants discover the relationships between their body and the
environment.
Early
Care and Education Program (Age 1 - 3)
Using the High-Scope Curriculum and NAEYC quality standards as our guide,
our Early Care and Education program focuses on engaging children in active,
hands-on learning that is appropriate to each stage of development. Daily
activities include small and large group activities, individual classroom
exploration, early literacy activities and outdoor play. Special attention
is paid to helping children develop self-help skill, become goo communicators
and learn to resolve conflicts.
Georgia
Pre-K Program (Age 4-5)
The Pre-Kindergarten program is governed
by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (Bright from the
Start). This free program is provided for four-year olds in public schools
and private child care centers statewide. The program operates from 8:30-3:00
Monday through Friday, and follows the DeKalb County school calendar.
Extended
Day Program
We offer an optional fee-based extended day program for Pre-K children
who need care between 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Summer
Program
The Summer Enrichment Program provides Pre-K level school year activities
during the summer to 40 children who will begin Kindergarten in the fall
and their families. The program is designed to help children develop the
skills needed for kindergarten, and to maintain over the summer the academic
and social progress they made during the pre-kindergarten school year.
The program will emphasize language and literacy, math processes, social
development, enrichment, physical development and transition to kindergarten,
and will involve families in the educational process.
